Positive Results–Benefits of Wearing Hearing Instruments

Hearing impaired adults who use hearing instruments report significant improvements in many areas of their lives—from relationships at home and a sense of independence to their social and sex life—according to a recent study.

Reporting Improvement:

Family Members

Aid Users

Relationships at Home

Feelings About Self

Life Overall

Relationships with Children, Grandchildren

The study, which included 2,090 close family members and friends of hearing impaired respondents, indicates that virtually every aspect of their lives has improved.

This study has determined that hearing impaired adults age 50 and older with untreated hearing loss are more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety and paranoia. They also are less likely to participate in organized social activities.

Hearing Instruments improve Lives

  • The study of 2,300 hearing impaired adults clearly concludes that hearing instruments improve lives.
  • Hearing instrument users are less likely to experience feelings of sadness or depression. The study indicates that hearing instrument users experienced these feelings 50% less often than non-users.
  • Hearing instrument users were 50% less likely to experience long periods (more than a month) of anxiety and tension, as compared to seniors with untreated hearing loss.
  • Claims that "people get angry with me for no reason" were half as likely to occur among hearing aid users.
  • Hearing instrument users reported a 30% increase in social activities.
